Simplify in 2016

Instead of resolutions, many people choose a word to define their year. Think grow, gratitude, balance. My word for 2016 is simplify. Simplify has been on my mind a lot. I’m sure it has to do with being less than 6 weeks from my due date and in full nesting mode. I’ve been working hard making room for baby mills in our two bedroom house. It’s made me realize how much stuff I have (and how much stuff I don’t need!). It’s felt really good to purge and get organized. I still have a ways to go but here are a few articles & tips keeping me inspired that I hope inspire you too!

Organizing: After reading this article, I immediately bought the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of De-Cluttering and Organizing for my mom. It got her kick started on organizing and I can’t wait to read it when she’s done. I also can’t live without a physical planner. They are a lot of great options and I suggest finding the one that’s right for you and your lifestyle. For me it’s Emily Ley’s Daily Simplified Planner.

Beauty: I love my friend Kathleen’s, founder of the BeautyNow app, “best of 2015” beauty posts. Check out her 2015 Makeup Favorites and Skincare Favorites. She tries out all the products so you don’t have to! On my to-do list is to clean out my toiletry products. Time to toss out samples and expired products! Fewer products means less application time. I know it will be important to streamline my makeup & skincare routines once I’m a mom!

Unsubscribe: Instead of just deleting the never ending daily retailer emails from my inbox, I’m making an effort to unsubscribe. I also canceled a bunch of magazine subscriptions. I don’t have time to read them anymore and they end up in the recycling bin.

Daily Challenge: Tackle a simple task each day in January. You will be amazed at what you have accomplished (and gotten rid of) in 31 days! Check out Emily Ley’s #simplicitychallenge2016 and Peter Walsh’s #31days2getorganized.

  1. Love this! I definitely need to go through my toiletries this month, just a little scared to tackle that project.

  2. If you haven't tried unroll.me, you might give it a shot! It rolls up all of those retailer emails into one daily digest. It has SAVED my inbox!
