Pressing Reset

The start of a new year seemed an appropriate time to share this over due life update! I was laid off the week before Halloween about 3 months post-Harvey. Now some may think it’s cruel to sever a flood victim, but honestly it has been the biggest blessing!

First, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. I needed a mental break after Harvey. I think I suffered some post traumatic stress. In the immediate aftermath of flooding, you can’t break down because there is so much to do. But after things calmed down and we settled in the apartment the reality of what happened hit.

Secondly, I was able to enjoy Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays without any stress about vacation time or work deadlines. It was so fun to spend so much time with Ford over the holidays. I was able to drop him down from 5 days extended care to 3 days part-time. My second week home one of his teachers told me what an improvement they had seen in him – he was happier, less tantrums and talking more! #MOMGUILT (though that was not her intention!).

I’m not sure what the future will hold. At the moment, I do not have a plan. I do need to go back to work but I have a few more months before that is a necessity. I’m going to make self-care a priority these next couple months. And planning to blog more consistently!

Hi Emmy! I started interviewing and then I was like why am I rushing to go back to work? When will I ever get to take a “break” again? We need to enjoy this time! xo Lauren

The #MomGuilt struggle is real!! I can relate on so many levels!! My 3 year old starts preschool this week, after only being with me at home since birth!! Thank you for being a mommy who shares the reality of it all!! ❤️💕
