Toddler Guide to Dewberry Farm Fall Festival

This weekend Ford & I met my friend Carla at the Dewberry Farm Fall Festival in Brookshire, Texas. It’s an easy 45 minute drive from Houston. I made some rookie mistakes that you can avoid like waiting in line for tickets and not buying tokens ahead of time.  There are lots of activities for children of all ages but here is my advice for taking toddlers (who are FREE under three!).

Top 5 Tips

  1. Buy tickets online! I learned this the hard way after waiting in line for 25 minutes.
  2. Go early! Closer parking, shorter lines…you get the idea.
  3. Take an all-terrain stroller! The paths are gravel and my umbrella stroller didn’t cut it. Don’t forget bug spray, change of clothes (see #5 activity), hand sanitizer, sunscreen, and water.
  4. Bring cash! Some of the food stalls only accept cash (or tokens).
  5. Use “The Nest” baby station/nursing room. The only A/C, need I say more?

Top 5 Activities

Most activities are included in your admission but a few activities like face painting and pony rides require tokens. Don’t make my mistake and get all the way to the ponies only to realize you have to walk ALL the way back to buy tokens.

  1. Dewville Express Train –  Tour the pumpkin patch and Christmas tree farm in shade. (Don’t bother with the wagon train – dinky and no cover.)
  2. Barnyard Animals – Make sure you have quarters to buy food and 2 tokens to ride the ponies.
  3. Mustang Carousel – Conveniently located across the bridge from the train station.
  4. Pumpkin Hollar – Over 500 lit pumpkins!
  5. Snow Cones – End the day on a sweet note with self-serve flavors!

*Don’t bother with  “Little Farmersville”! Nice idea but completely disappointing and run down.*

No kids? Certain weekends, they are open late. Grab a pizza and some cold beer for a picnic in the patch and watch the fireworks!

I would also recommend avoiding the rope swing hay barn. My son fell and broke his leg there last year 😢
